126th Regiment, New York Infantry


Brief History

The 126th Regiment was organized at Geneva, Ontario County, and mustered in August 22, 1862.[1] They were organized by Colonel Eliakim Sherrill and mustered in at Troy, Rensselaer, New York.[2]
The regiment moved to Washington, D. C., May 2-12, 1865. They were honorably discharged and mustered out,under Col. Ira Smith Brown, June 3, 1865. Veterans and Recruits were transferred to the 4th New York Heavy Artillery.[3]
