Brief History

The 101st Regiment, New York Infantry was organized at Hancock, N. Y., September 2, 1861. It left the State for Washington, D. C., March 9, 1862. The regiment attached to Wadsworth's Command, Military District of Washington, to May, 1862. Whipple's Brigade, Defences of Washington, to June, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 3rd Army Corps, Army of the Potomac, to August, 1862. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 3rd Army Corps, to December, 1862. The regiment transferred to 37th New York Infantry December 24, 1862.
